Wildfires
One of the African Savanna's main threats are wildfires. These wildfires burn vegetation, killing plant life. This affects the land, as well as the atmosphere
Deforestation, Overgrazing, and Desertification
The African Savanna also faces deforestation and over-farming. Because of an increase in people needed food, farmers over farm by taking the food out before it is fully grown. This causes the soil to become poor and makes it worse. Without the soil, the area becomes like a desert, causing very bad erosion. Becasue of deforestation, the land is cleared for crops. In fact, about 16% of tropical grasslands have been converted for agriculture or urban development.
Lack of Water
The African Savanna sometimes gets short of water. This happens when the biome is dry and not enough water for animals to drink. This may cause the animals to die dehydration, and it may even cause them to become extinct.
Poaching
Poaching is another issue in the African Savanna. People are illegally hunting game on land that is not their own. They are killing animals and using the resources from them. For example, people are killing elephants to make ivory from their tusks.
